Since Windows Phone does not support many popular VPN protocols, especially OpenVPN, a good solution would be to create a VPN connection on your PC and share it through Wifi. Follow the given steps for Windows :
- Download the OpenVPN GUI software from here : https://openvpn.net/index
.php/op... - Go to http://www.vpnbook.com/fr
eevpn and download an appropriate certificate bundle - Extract the required config file(s) to C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config (assuming you installed OpenVPN in default directory)
- If you use a proxy server (suppose you use proxy 192.168.4.1 : 1080 with basic authentication) to connect to the internet, add the following line anywhere before the 'ca' markup tags (<ca></ca>) :
- http-proxy 192.168.4.1 1080 stdin basic
- Now start the VPN server by right clicking the notification icon and selecting the proper config. You should be asked for OpenVPN credentials (which can be found from vpnbook.com ) and proxy credentials (if any) and
- Once successfully connected, reset all proxy settings (if any) to default no-proxy
- Now share TAP adapter through your wifi hotspot software (e.g. Connectify / netsh) and you are ready to browse WhatsApp on your Windows Phone (make sure proxy settings is set to no-proxy)
Notes:
- If you want to save your authentication settings instead of being prompted for it every time, create a file (e.g login.conf in the config directory ) with username and password on separate lines. In the OpenVPN config file, modify this line:
auth-user-pass login.conf
- If you are using netsh to share your wifi (Windows), open Network and Sharing settings, select the VPN connection (one with 'access type : internet' ) -> properties -> sharing -> select 'Local Area Connection* 4'
- If you face problems connecting, check if the vpnbook password has changed (it changes frequently) , or try another ovpn-config file
