Happened to my Nexus 5 also. It was
working like a charm and then all of a sudden BANG !! My phone won't register on the network. I played with all the settings, reset the phone, inserted sim card N number of times but nothing helped. Finally I came across a solution. Dial *#*#4636#*#* this will land you on some internal network settings. Just play with them and you'll have your network back.
But I am facing a lot of poor network since then and also my phone won't catch signal if I switch to 2G.
But at least you'll have your phone working again.
