The reason why there's no news about future of windows phone is because it has no future.The smartphone market is captured by Google and Apple for now and will be in coming years too.
I will point some specific reasons as to why -
1-In start itself , microsoft made a mistake of launching half build versions of 10 OS which don't go very well when user experience is concerned.If anyone face issues with OS (not smooth, not user friendly) he or she doesn't wait for next version to come out ,they switch.
2-Microsoft has not been able to get enough developers to build apps and that's a huge negative. Nobody is going to wait for that even.
3- The mobile OS has not been able to offer anything new which Android and IPhone doesn't have, in fact it lacks in many aspects.
4 Every manufacturer ,be it Xiaomi, One Plus, LG , Samsung, Moto etc. and even Nokia have decided to launch Android Phones in near future. NO Windows 10here!
5- The growth and popularity of Android is too high. In September 2012, 500 million devices had been activated with 1.3 million activations per day as said by Google.I don't think Windows 10 OS even manages to cross 50K
6-According to a Statistica's estimate, Android smartphones had an installed base of1.6 billion units in 2014, which was 75% of the estimated total number of smartphones worldwide.In the third quarter of 2013, Android's share of the global smartphone shipment market was 81.3%, and believe me it will be much higher in coming years.
and last -
The way Google and IPhone have dominated the market because of innovation and brand value respectively can not be undone by Microsoft or lets say any other company in near future.
