Can HTML be replaced completely with any other language?

First of all, yes, HTML can be replaced, and technically, it's not even that big of a job. The problem is 100% of web browsers out there can display HTML, and nothing else.
The rest of your question, I don't fully understand. Are you suggesting that you supply a "web page" as Java source code? If so, I think your idea is feasible, but a bad one, as every computer would need to have a Java compiler on board.
Or you talking about making a new markup language, output by Java?
Your idea gets two thumbs up from me, first thumb for loving Java, and second thumb for thinking about a 'big picture' project like this. I'm not sure I fully understand your idea though, so may try to add further details?
